The Trauma Healing Institute (THI) at the American Bible Society, Philadelphia-USA, in collaboration with the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), Apapa-Lagos, Nigeria; is equipping people, churches, and Non Government Organizations (NGOs) around the world to care for the ‘more-than-one-in-seven’ people worldwide who suffer severe wounds of the heart and spirit in the aftermath of conflict, disaster or abuse.
The term “Trauma” refers to the psychological and emotional effects of disruptive events like: rape, incest, child abuse, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, human trafficking, avoidable communal clashes, war, genocide, criminal activity, urban violence, abandonment, and natural disasters on human beings.
People are traumatized when they are overwhelmed with intense fear, helplessness and horror in the face of death. Reactions include bad feelings, disappointment, anger, depression, disrupted sleep, health issues, negative emotions, lack of trust in relationships and hopelessness in what the future holds for them. In extreme cases, traumatized people often turn to substance abuse or physical aggression, thereby perpetuating cycles of violence.
In Nigeria, several cases of traumatized people abound across the length and breadth of the country. Such cases range from victims of rape, incest, child abuse, inter- and intra- community upheavals, avoidable tribal/land disputes, religious intolerance, bigotry, carnage, etc.
There is a dire need for ministers of the gospel to answer the call of ministry in relation to trauma healing. Indeed, the harvest is plenty, but the laborers are very few. So if, as you are reading this piece of information, you believe that you have the call for a trauma healing ministry; and are deeply interested in filling-the-gap to offer genuine assistance to the needy and the traumatized, please, cause your local church/denomination to be duly registered with the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) for this purpose; and enroll for their courses to equip you accordingly.
At the Bible Society of Nigeria, our Relationship Manager for Trauma Healing Institute matters is Miss. Yinka Moka. Please rush to the BSN website to fill-up their “Contact US” form. You may also scroll for their official telephone numbers and/or e-mail address to contact this wonderful woman.
God Bless you in the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
